What does hit or stand mean in Classic Blackjack?

Hit means you take another card from the shoe; stand means you keep the total you already hold. You make the call after the dealer's first card is on the felt.

What is splitting in blackjack?

Splitting turns a pair, say two eights, into two separate hands, each carrying its own bet. You then play both hands out against the same dealer cards.

What is a soft 17?

A soft 17 is a hand with an ace still counted as eleven, such as ace plus six. Your total drops by ten if the next card takes you over 21.

How does double down work?

Double down doubles your stake in exchange for exactly one more card, and then that hand is finished. It is usually played on a ten or an eleven.

What is insurance in blackjack?

Insurance is a side bet of up to half your original stake, available when the dealer shows an ace. It pays 2:1 if the dealer's down card completes a blackjack.

What is a push?
